Parking and Transport at Summer School 2025
CMS Summer School 2025 sees a major change in our parking and transport plan for the morning sessions.
How will it run this year?
- The KCC Oval will not be available for general parking.
The only exceptions are:
a. those who have children registered in on-site programs (Crèche or Preschool),
b. pre-designated team members, and
c. Youth & Children’s leaders staying on site.
All of the above will be ticketed in advance.
- For those with limited mobility, there will be minibus shuttles running from Ficus St (near the KCC Hartley site at the bend in Ficus St), to the Auditorium and back. These shuttles will also be running from the Gully, but Ficus St is the preferred pick-up and drop-off location.
- There will be Park ‘n’ Ride buses from both Katoomba High School and Katoomba Primary School. This is ideal for those with children in programs at those locations, given the new Youth & Children’s Check-In/Out procedure (see the FAQ page).
- There will be Park ‘n’ Ride buses from the Gully car park in Gates Ave, as well as several stops in Katoomba. Street parking is available for those wishing to Park n Ride from a stop in Katoomba.
- All buses taking attendees to the KCC site will now drop off in Oak St, for attendees to make their way to the Auditorium. Though this is a slightly longer walk, you will no longer need to take the steep hill through the KCC site from lower Violet St.
- There is also the usual parking in the streets away from the KCC site, for those who wish to walk to and from morning sessions.
Why are we making these changes?
We have worked closely with Blue Mountains City Council and Scenic World on what we believe is an efficient and safe way of moving as many people as possible.
As many will be aware, rain can quickly close the KCC Oval, forcing us to change our transport plans at short notice. We are hoping that relying less on the Oval for parking will allow our teams and attendees to get to and from Summer School with more stability and less uncertainty.
We are also making these changes to alleviate much of the traffic gridlock that occurs around the CMS Conference Centre, KCC and Scenic World sites. Scenic World anticipates up to 6,000 visitors a day during the conference period. Added to this is the unsuitability of lower Violet St to handle large numbers of pedestrians, cars, and buses.
What are the parking options for evening sessions?
All evening attendees will be able to use the Scenic World multi-storey car park.
Those with mobility issues will be able to park in Ficus St or the Scenic World car park and use the shuttle services.
Please note that while public buses do run in the area, there will be no conference buses running at night.
